Let me tell you a little more about the Walton Band and why it is so important to our family and our community. The Band Program is among the finest to be found in the Southeast.  The Band’s values of Proficiency, Reliability, Integrity, Discipline and Excellence (PRIDE) are a tradition; more importantly, they are the values which our students can rely on to become tomorrow’s leaders.
   Under the direction of J. Michael Back and Jeffrey H. Pollock, and numbering close to 250 students, the program includes the Raider marching band, four concert bands, two jazz bands, two winter competition guards, an indoor percussion ensemble, and other independent ensembles. The Band participates in numerous local and regional competitions, including Bands of America, where it has frequently been a regional finalist. The Band has participated in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Outback Bowl Parade and halftime show, the Tournament of Roses Parade, and the Waikiki Holiday Parade in Honolulu, Hawaii.  Students from the Walton Band program compete at the district and state level, achieving recognition in the All-State ensembles and the Governor’s Honors Program.
   Even more important than the accolades, though, is the profound effect the band program has on our children. Being part of the Band community has given them an invaluable sense of belonging, enabling them to make friendships strong enough to last a lifetime. They’ve learned to be self-confident, responsible and independent - qualities that will carry them far in life. They are becoming extraordinary young adults.
   Every year, costs rise and the operating budget for the Band gets higher and higher. It’s only through tireless fundraising efforts that the Band is able to sustain the development of its exceptional program. This school year, the Band will raise well over $100,000 in support of this program! The money raised will help provide the professional instruction, instruments and support that are critical to the continued success of the Band program.
